Things I Like :: Yoga Edition

By | Published: February 16, 2016

As I’ve said before in my first “Things I Like” post, it gives me pause sometimes when I think about how much emphasis our society puts on “things”. And so I choose not to look at the necessary items I use and need every day not as things but as tools. We need a snowboard to go snowboarding, we need clothes to wear, we need bags to carry things in, and so on. When I practice yoga, I need certain tools to allow me to practice and enhance my practice. Today I’m adventuring to India to study with my teacher, Yogurupa Rod Stryker and his teacher, Pandit Rajmani Tigunait of the Himalayan Institute.  And for my first time ever, I’ve decided to pack minimally and carry with me just one carry on and it feels so good!  Because often times less is actually more.  But with that being said, I love to share the things in my life that have been valuable and important tools on my path to becoming the best version of myself in hopes to share that value with you!  So in this second installment of “Things I Like” I’ve given you a shmattering of things that have helped me be more comfortable, focused, inspired, hydrated and healthy along my adventure into human potential and yoga whether I’m at home in Aspen or traveling to India!  I hope you like!

Vuori Encinitas House Legging : These guys are right down the street from our house in California and are making some really cool products. I love the high-rise waist and four-way stretch of these pants; they move with you in all the right ways.

Bulletproof Coffee Brain Octane : Bulletproof Coffee makes more than just coffee… so much more. Including Brain Octane. I mix this oil with my Matcha Tea in the mornings for clear focus, and a calm heightened energy without the jitters! It’s all the good fats you need to feed your brain.

Mobile Meditator Pillow : This little meditation pillow is so great for traveling because you can inflate and deflate it as needed and it doesn’t sacrifice comfort. Also, it has different chambers so you can customize it to your preferred level of “poof” without compromising stability. This fits perfectly in my carry on and is so wonderful for those longer meditation sessions!

ALEX BottleI’ve professed my love for ALEX Bottles sustainable and beautiful design a lot, but it’s also the best travel water bottle I’ve ever owned because when you unscrew ALEX in the middle it can compact into half its size! You just turn the lower half upside down and it slides into the upper half saving tons of space and becoming extra storage for your socks, beanie or glasses. No more dead space in your bag!

Dr. Ohhira Probiotics : When traveling to foreign countries, especially ones with more adventurous cuisine, it’s a good idea to prepare your body and digestive system with probiotics. They are also great at boosting the immune system when trapped in the petri-dish that is an airplane! Dr. Ohhira takes the time to make sure the bacteria in his probiotics have fermented properly and will be well received by intestinal tracts.

Living With The Himalayan Masters Book : Rod Stryker is the founder of Parayoga and the teacher under whom I learn and practice. His teacher is Pandit Rajmani Tigunait who studied directly under Swami Rama, the author of this book. So the ancient wisdom tradition that I’m learning directly descends from Swami Rama. This inspirational collection of his stories chronicles his spiritual journey to truth and enlightenment including his interactions with other masters like Mahatma Gandhi.  A must read for all of you explorers of human potential!!!!

Modern Om Modern Connection Mala : Malas are beaded necklaces that both show the world and remind you of your intention in the world. The color violet represents the 7th chakra, CONNECTION, and reminds you of your intention to be present in the now. The Modern Om malas are ethically hand crafted on Hainan Island in China from the wood of the sustainable Schema tree.

Manduka Eko lite Mat : This yoga mat is not only super functional — it has great grip so I won’t slide around when I’m sweating in India! — it is also eco-friendly being made from biodegradable, non-Amazon harvested, natural tree rubber. Plus, it’s thin — only 3mm — so it travels great.

Spiritual Gangster Diamond Eye Tank : I love Spiritual Gangster. They have really hit the nail on the head with their super fun and edgy messaging.  It’s cool to be spiritual and a ganster at the same time. 😉

Banyan Botanicals Nasya Oil : Healthy, uncongested breathing is key to meditation and yoga. Nasya Oil helps cleanse the excess gunk that builds up when we’re congested. It’s great for traveling or for winter months and it can help alleviate headaches and promote concentration by relieving pressure on the sinuses. This stuff is great for planes and when you’re at high elevations.  Love it!
